John Simm stars in "Intruders" on BBC America as Jack Whelan, a Los Angeles cop turned writer who has escaped a dark, violent past for a seemingly quiet life with his wife, Amy.

British actor John Simm was recently seen in the BBC drama "The Village," as Derbyshire farmer John Middleton. He is also known for his starring roles in Sky One's "Mad Dogs" and "Life on Mars," with the latter earning him a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Actor, as well as for playing The Master opposite David Tennant in "Doctor Who." Other UK television credits include "Exile," for which he earned his second BAFTA nomination, "Skellig: The Owl Man" with Tim Roth and Kelly MacDonald, "The Devil's Whore," "Blue/Orange," the BAFTA award-winning drama "Sex Traffic," "State of Play," "Crime and Punishment," "The Lakes," "Men of the World" and "Oasis." He made his debut in "Rumpole of the Bailey," while his breakthrough role came when he played a psychotic teenager in "Cracker" in 1995.

Film credits include Michael Winterbottom's "Everyday," "24 Hour Party People" and "Wonderland," as well as "Tu£sday," "Brothers of the Head," "Human Traffic" and "Understanding Jane." Simm earned a Best Actor Award at the Valencia Film Festival for his feature film debut role in the coming-of-age drama, "Boston Kickout."

On stage, Simm earned a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the comedy "Elling" at the Bush Theatre and Trafalgar Studios in the West End of London. Other theatrical credits include "The Houthouse"; the revival of Harold Pinter's "Betrayal" and the title role in "Hamlet," both at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre; Andrew Bovell's "Speaking in Tongues" at the Duke of York's Theatre in the West End; "Danny Rule" at the Royal Court; and Simon Bent's "Goldhawk Road" at the Bush Theatre.

In the 1990s, Simm was a founding member, songwriter and guitarist with the rock band Magic Alex, which opened for Echo and the Bunnymen on two tours. 

Simm attended The Fylde College in St. Annes and trained at the Drama Centre London, where he studied the Stanislavski School of Method acting.

Simm is married to actress Kate Magowan with whom he has two children, Ryan and Molly.
