John Singleton is the director of "Abduction," starring Taylor Lautner.

John Singletonhas the distinct honor of being the youngest person (at age 24) and first ever African American nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director. His first feature film, 1991's "Boyz N the Hood," brought the struggles of South Central Los Angeles to mainstream audiences, and was a critical and box office success, landing him Oscar nominations for Best Director and Original Screenplay.

Other films as a writer/director/producer include "Poetic Justice," "Higher Learning," "Shaft" and "Baby Boy." He also directed "Rosewood," "2 Fast 2 Furious" and "Four Brothers." Through his New Deal Productions, he produced the independent films "Hustle & Flow," "Black Snake Moan" and "Illegal Tender."

Singleton is an alum of the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts.
