Johnny Gates from "The Voice" is one of top 48 artists in Season 12 of the NBC reality singing competition series. From Providence, Rhode Island, he is on Gwen Stefani's team.

Johnny Gates sang "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart for his blind audition. After Stefani, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton all turned their chairs around, Johnny chose Stefani to be his coach.

Johnny started pursuing music at eighteen years old when he was asked to join the band Runaway Saints because he "had awesome hair." They performed locally in Rhode Island and moved to Nashville in 2008. Nathan Chapman, a Taylor Swift producer, took them under his wing, but after multiple album setbacks, Johnny moved to Los Angeles. Not long after moving, he opened for Rod Stewart for three weeks on a Midwest tour. The band is currently on a break, but Johnny continues to play around the L.A. scene.
