Jonathan Penner from "Survivor: Philippines" is one of the contestants on Season 25 of the CBS reality competition series. He is a 50-year-old writer from Los Angeles, California. He starts off the season as part of the Kalabaw tribe.

Penner previously competed on "Survivor: Cook Island,: on which he was the 14th castaway voted off the island, becoming the sixth jury member. He later returned for "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" but required a medical evacuation due to a knee infection on Day 15. While diagnosing Penner during the game, Dr. Jessica Sartini said, "I can only recommend for the sake of his leg and his life that he leave the game now. He needs hospital treatment. It is not going to get better. It will only get worse."

A native of New York, Jonathan Penner is a writer/producer for film and television. He and his wife, Stacy, have developed numerous projects including "The Last Supper," "The Lone Ranger," "Let the Devil Wear Black" and the 1994 Oscar-nominated for Best Short Film, Live Action, "Down on the Waterfront" (which he co-produced, co-wrote and starred in with Jason Alexander, Ed Asner and Mike Starr). Penner also worked as an actor and had a series regular role on "Grapevine," "The Naked Truth" and "Rude Awakening." He also made guest-starring appearances in various series including "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "The Nanny," "Seinfeld" and "Arrested Development." Additionally, he is a producer/writer/director.

Penner attended the prestigious Phillips Andover prep school in Andover, Massachusetts, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. He enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, theater, moves and track/field.

Penner currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, director Stacy Title, and their two children, Cooper and Ava. He says, "My daughter is hilarious and actually looks up to me, and my son is smarter and more athletic than I am already. Wanting to make them proud is why I always do my best." They have one bunny, Angel Cake, and two lizards, Mozilla and Luna.

Penner describes himself as happy, prickly and funny. His pet peeves include stupidity, meanness and slow drivers in the passing lanes. If he could have three things on the island, they would be a good book to read, a blank book in which to write, and "if I can count her as a thing, my wife. If not, I'll bring a pen."

He is on the show for "The money. I have nothing more to prove or accomplish but winning." He thinks he will survive and ultimately win, because "Experience is the biggie, but I also bring humor and I'm a team player ... Third time is a charm! If I can get past the first three or four votes I'm going all the way. Seriously!"
