Jordyn Wieber is a gymnast competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA. She is the 2011 world all-around champion, 2011 world team champion, and a two-time U.S. all-around champion.

Jordyn Wieber will make her much anticipated Olympic debut in London. As the reigning world all-around champion, she is favored for gold, but will face tough competition from one of her teammates, Gabby Douglas, and several strong gymnasts from Russia, Romania, and China.

Wieber came away from her first world championships with the world all-around and team titles - not bad for her debut. In Tokyo, Wieber contributed on all four events to help Team USA win gold over Russia and China. In the all-around, Wieber struggled on bars, giving Russian Viktoria Komova the lead going into the final apparatus, floor exercise. Wieber stepped out of bounds, but showed a solid routine, while Komova struggled on multiple tumbling passes. Wieber edged Komova for all-around gold by just 0.033 points. Wieber also won bronze in the balance beam final.

In her first senior VISA National Championships, Wieber claimed the all-around title. She opened a significant lead after night one of competition, then performed even better night two, topping her competition by more than six points. Wieber also won the floor and uneven bars titles.

In her senior international debut at the 2011 American Cup, Wieber defeated the reigning world champion Aliya Mustafina of Russia. Wieber's participation was questioned by the Russians as the event was an FIG World Cup event and invitations were based on results at the previous world championships (which Wieber was too young to compete at). But Wieber was allowed to register as an alternate and when an athlete from another country was injured, Wieber was able to compete. (Wieber also won the 2009 American Cup at age 13, before it became a World Cup event and juniors were eligible.)

Wieber won the 2008 junior all-around title at Nationals, but was unable to defend her title in 2009 after being sidelined by a hamstring injury. She returned to competition at the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships in Australia and won the junior title with a higher score than senior all-around champ Rebecca Bross. Three months later, Wieber repeated that feat at the 2010 CoverGirl Classic, again claiming the junior title with a higher score than the senior champion.

She missed 2009 Nationals with a hamstring injury. Hoping to reclaim her title (2008 junior all-around national champion) in 2010, Wieber injured both ankles during warm-ups before prelims. She tried to compete, but after several mistakes, Wieber decided to withdraw before finals.

Wieber's powerful style of gymnastics draws comparisons to 2008 Olympic beam champion Shawn Johnson. "It's flattering," Wieber said." She's such a great gymnast it's kind of cool to be compared to someone that great."

When asked about her most embarrassing sports moment, Wieber recalls, "When I was a Level 6 and I was at a meet, I saluted to the judge and then I picked my wedgie. They took a deduction for that. It was pretty embarrassing."

Wieber was born and raised in DeWitt, Michigan. She got her gymnastics start at four years old in a recreational class. Wieber is the third of four children, but the only gymnast. Her older brother, Ryan, was a quarterback on DeWitt High School's varsity football team, where Jordyn is a student. Wieber is coached by John and Kathryn Geddert.
