Judy Reyes portrays no-nonsense nurse Carla Espinosa on the comedy series "Scrubs." "I really admire Carla – she's smart and sassy and a very good nurse," says Judy Reyes. "I like that she remains confident and unapologetic in a world where nurses don't receive the same respect as doctors." Judy Reyes grew up in the Bronx and became interested in acting while attending Hunter College in Manhattan. In 1992, Judy Reyes landed her first major acting role in the independent feature film "Jack and His Friends" opposite Sam Rockwell, and went on to perform extensively in the theater. Judy Reyes is particularly proud of her work with the Labyrinth Theatre Company, a multi-cultural acting space in Manhattan where she is a founding member and has served as both actor and producer on numerous productions over the past 10 years. Judy Reyes's television credits include a recurring role as Tina on "Oz." Judy Reyes has also appeared in "The Sopranos" and "100 Centre Street." Judy Reyes's made for television movies including "John Sanford's Mind Prey" and "The Prosecutors." Her film credits include "Bringing Out the Dead" with Nicolas Cage, "Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God, Be Back at Five," and "Washington Heights." Judy Reyes recently completed shooting the Hallmark Channel movie-of-the week "Our House," as well as a guest-starring role on Lifetime's episodic series "Strong Medicine." Additionally, Judy Reyes acted in and co-produced (with her husband) "Glow Ropes" which premiered at the 2005 Cannes International Film Festival to glowing reviews and won "Best Film" at the 2005 HBO New York Latino Film Festival. Judy Reyes is beginning work on the upcoming independent film "Dirty," which is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Judy Reyes is currently shooting a new film "The Poker Club," in which she stars as the detective that cracks the case. Judy Reyes resides in Los Angeles, but frequently returns to her native New York.
