Julie Tierney from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. She is a 35-year-old intern at Loki Outerwear in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was raised though in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She worked for over ten years in the food and beverage industry, including a job as a pastry chef at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. She also had several other server/bartender jobs mostly in ski towns.
The first garment Julie Tierney ("Project Runway 9") ever made was an Oompa Loompa costume for a party when she was 21 years old. She went back to school at age 32 at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). While taking her introduction to accessories class, she realized she had potential as a designer. She won the SCAD Yearly Artistic Honors Scholarship and the Catherine Malandrino Style Lab Mentorship before graduating in 2010 with a degree in fashion design.
Her favorite designers are Pierre Cardin, Givenchy, Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, YSL and Balenciaga. Tierney says she is a sophisticated designer with good taste. She considers time management to be her weakness but thinks that everyone has that problem. Snowboarding and skiing influence her work all the time, as well as horseback riding. When she's designing, she likes listening to Shr3d Crust, '80s country music, snowboard rock (aka melodic punk) groups on the Fat Wreck Chords, Top 40, Metallica, heavy metal and "butt rock."
