Julien Baumgartner has a degree in architecture, as well as having attended TJP Strasbourg (1994-97), the Cours Florent (1997-2000) and the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSAD, 2000-01).
In 2000's "Gnosis" he plays Kafka, Racine, Pinter, and has appeared in short films such as "Wish Me" (2000) by Nicolas Sauvaige or "Parent's Room 5: A New Love" by Pascale Breton (2001), which was screened at the Cannes Festival in 2002.
Baumgartner had his cinematic debut in Stephane Kazandjian's "Sexy Boys" in 2002, and then as the troubled hero of Fabrice Cazeneuve's film "Because of a Boy" with Jeremiah Elkaïm. Baumgartner also appeared in the 2003 short film "A Beautiful Day" by Gilles Bindi, "Evening Blue" by Bénoliel Arnaud in 2007, "Passagers" by Samuel Feller" in 2008, and in supporting roles such as "A Picture of Agnes Jaoui" (2004) and "Time With a Look by Ilan Flammer in 2004. Baumgartner appears regularly for Jean-Louis Lorenzi, as seen in  ";Hopes" (2003), "Singles" (2004), "Blue Cat, Black Cat" (2006) and "Purification" (2007).
Julien Baumgartner has also appeared in the TV series "Paris Criminal Investigations" and in the film "Les amants du flore" by Ilan Duran Cohen, who propelled Baumgartner to fame in the spy comedy "The Joy of Singing." The latter film earned Baumgartner a César nomination in 2009. He was also in Graham Guit's "Hello Goodbye," alongside Gerard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant and Manu Payet.
In addition, Baumgartner appears in Lionel Baier's feature "Toulouse" and stars in the TV movie "4 Boys in the Night," for which Baumgartner was awarded the Best Actor at the Festival de Luchon in 2010.
