Kami Craig is a water polo player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Kami Craig helped the U.S. women's water polo team qualify for the London Olympics by scoring 12 goals (second-most on the team) at the 2011 Pan-American Games. She tallied six goals (on 75 percent shooting) at the 2011 World Championships, where the team placed sixth.

Craig helped the University of Southern California win the national title in 2010, her last year on the team. She earned back-to-back Peter J. Cutino Awards while at USC, which is given to the best collegiate water polo player in the country every year. Craig deposited 38, 38, 40 and 36 goals in each of her four seasons at USC, respectively. She joined the U.S. national program in 2003 and made the senior national team in 2006.

Craig and the U.S. team finished second at the Beijing Olympics after a 9-8 loss to the Netherlands in the final. The Americans were favored to win and had beaten the Netherlands in a scrimmage before the Olympics. "That buzzer rang and it was like someone physically kicked my stomach as hard as they could," Craig said. "There was a lot of disappointment. We really wanted to get gold." Later that night, however, Craig spent some private time with her family and she realized that she had reached her dreams by winning an Olympic medal. "I get emotional talking about it," she said.

Craig had two older brothers, but her athletic abilities — she started playing water polo at age 12 and also played basketball — gave her the confidence to take care of herself. But even though she didn't need her brothers to protect her, she was forced to step in when her youngest of her two older brothers, Jeffrey, was getting bossed around by a girl across the street. Craig told Jeffrey to tell the girl to back off, but she was forced to intervene on the playground one day. "Back off bossy, take a hike," Craig says she told the girl in her "big, loud voice." The girl left Jeffrey alone after that.

Considering that she is used to the rigors of the center position, it should not be a surprise that Craig enjoys tough challenges, whether engaging in them herself or watching others do them. She loves surfing, especially at Refugio Beach, her favorite Halloween costume is an American Gladiator and her favorite movie is "300."
