Karen Akunowicz from "Top Chef" is one of the chefs competing in season 13 of the Bravo reality cooking competition. She is the executive chef at Myers+Chang. Born in Kearny, New Jersey, she has lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for over a decade. She received her professional training at The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. Her favorite simple fall dessert recipe is her mother's peach cake, which is really a peach tart, with fresh peaches and creamy custard.

Chef Karen Akunowicz is a 2015 James Beard Nominee for "Best Chef Northeast." Following culinary school, she worked in various Boston restaurants including Via Matta, before she moved to Italy in 2008. She lived in Modena for a year as the chef at a small enoteca where she perfected her pasta skills and found inspiration in preparing of the simplest of ingredients.

Karen returned to Cambridge as the Sous Chef at Oleana restaurant. Her food is as soulful, fiery and passionate as she is and she strives to create crave-able dishes at her funky Asian diner, Myers+Chang. Karen is a Queer Femme lady who loves yoga and the lamb sandwich at Flour Bakery.
