Katie Taylor is a boxer competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for Ireland.

Katie Taylor's resume is sterling. She has four consecutive World Championship golds beginning in 2006. Add in five consecutive European Amateur golds starting in 2005. And finally Taylor sports four consecutive European Union Amateur Championship golds beginning in 2008. The most impressive part of her trio of streaks: They're all ongoing.

Taylor's latest triumph came at the 2012 World Championships in Qinhuangdao. Her first four matches included wins of 19-6, 16-6, a contest stopped in the fourth round and a walk-over. In the finals, Taylor beat Russia's Sofia Ochigava, 11-7, to win the World title. She's the prohibitive favorite to win in London.

Born to a former senior boxing champion and football fanatic father in the Irish town of Bray and two brothers, Taylor was a tomboy from the start. Instead of Barbies and dolls, she received soccer and boxing equipment.

In addition to being the world's best boxer, Taylor is a member of the Irish national soccer team; beginning her footballing career on the U-17 squad. While she's taken the last two years off to focus on boxing, Taylor hasn't ruled out a comeback post-Olympics. "It's a huge honor playing for your country and maybe it's something I could pick up again after the Olympics at some stage, but for now I'm focused on boxing and seeing how that goes." Considering she's one of the most talented midfielders of Irish decent, there's a good chance Taylor would be welcomed back with open arms.

Taylor was recently voted as Ireland's No. 4 most desirable Valentine. She's also a big Leeds United supporter (an English soccer club).
