Khandi Alexander stars in "Treme" on HBO as LaDonna Batiste-Williams.
Previously, Khandi Alexander starred for six years as Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Alexx Woods on the hit CBS television drama "CSI: Miami," receiving numerous citations, including an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting.
Before that, Alexander co-starred as the sophisticated radio personality Catherine Duke on the long-running TV sitcom "NewsRadio." She also had a recurring role on the popular television
Her feature film credits include two independent features, "First Born" and "Rain," "Dark Blue," "There's Something About Mary," "What's Love Got to Do with It?," "A Chorus Line," "Sugar Hill," "Menace II Society" and "Emmett's Mark."
Alexander began her career as a dancer on Broadway. Her big break came when legendary choreographer Bob Fosse hand-picked her for his national touring company of "Dancin'." From there, Alexander appeared in the original Tony Award-wnning Broadway production of "Dreamgirls" and later starred on Broadway as Velma Kelly in Bob Fosse's "Chicago." In between, she forged a four-year-long creative collaboration with the multi-platinum songstress Whitney Houston. Their assocation culminated in Alexander choreographing Houston's successful "I'm Your Baby Tonight" internationa concert tour, which established Houston as a star and Alexander as a guiding force. Alexander also served as choreographer for the 1992 American Music Awards.
Alexander was born and raised in Queens, New York, and lives in Los Angeles.
