Louis and raised primarily in Missouri, the oldest of five children. Her weight gain began after a failed pregnancy in her second marriage. Before she could lose that weight, she became pregnant again soon after with her daughter, and the weight gain continued, especially after the passing of her father. Kim says her “aha moment” came as she was close to getting her bachelor’s degree in nursing and facing the one-year anniversary of her mother’s death, and realized she too could die young if she didn’t make a major life overhaul.
