Kimberly Goldson from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. She is a 35-year-old freelance designer in White Plains, Maryland. She was raised though in Brooklyn, New York. In the past, she has worked as a production assistant for several clothing labels and was a manager for the U.S. Census Bureau.
The first garment Kimberly Goldson ("Project Runway 9") ever made that was actually wearable was a dress for her sister for her wedding rehearsal dinner in 2007. Kimberly says that she always had a unique style and that, ever since high school, she has altered and reinvented clothing for herself and her friends. She didn't realize she had the potential to be a designer though until one day in about 2006. She attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where she majored in fashion merchandising management. Her design training though is self-taught through plenty of trial and error. She once received a write-up in an article in Rolling Out in Atlanta as an emerging designer to watch.
Her favorite designers are Oscar de la Renta, Alice and Olivia, Marchesa, Monique Lhullier and Christian Siriano. Kimberly considers great shoes to be a fashion must. She says her design strengths are her structure, style, taste level and her ability to tailor for a real woman's body. Knit fabrics are her weakness, along with not knowing technical terminology and not being able to sketch well. Her structure aesthetic was heavily influenced early on by Oscar de la Renta. Her mother has always been her inspiration though. Kimberly looks at pictures of her mother from the '70s and simply marvels at her style. As Kimberly has developed as a designer though, she says she is no longer influenced solely by any one designer or one thing. When she's designing, she likes listening to Nickleback's "Rockstar" and Chrisette Michelle's "I'm a Star."
