Kōhei Uchimura is a gymnast competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for Japan. He is the 2008 Olympic all-around silver medalist and a three-time world all-around champion (2009–11).

Kōhei Uchimura became the first male gymnast to win three all-around world titles. He claimed gold at home in Tokyo at the 2011 World Championships in October. Uchimura is also the only gymnast to win three consecutive titles. In the team competition, Japan was close to upsetting China for gold until Uchimura and one of his teammates fell off the horizontal bar in the final rotation. Japan just barely edged the United States for team silver.

After falling off high bar twice at a Worlds qualifying meet in Japan, Uchimura told IG, "I will practice enough to be able to do it blindfolded." High bar is one of the Japanese stars signature events. Uchimura told Japanese TV he would like to be stronger on vault.

When Uchimura won the world all-around title in 2011 he was nursing a left shoulder injury. Despite looking off in practices all week and sporting a heavily taped shoulder in Rotterdam, Uchimura won the world title and four additional medals.

Uchimura stands out on the floor for his full head of black hair.

He is the 2008 Olympic all-around silver medalist. Uchimura edged out Benoit Caranobe of France by 0.050, but was more than two-and-a-half points back of Olympic champion Yang Wei of China.

Uchimura fell off the pommel horse twice in the finals - but has since said he was happy to fall just twice since he had a painful wrist injury and was expecting worse. Since Beijing, however, Uchimura has established him as the one to beat at the London 2012 Games. His dominance has also allowed Japan to challenge for team gold - in Beijing the Chinese men won the title with Uchimura and Team Japan finishing second.

His parents were both gymnasts and opened a gym when he was three years old (and still run the club there). Uchimura's first competition was at age six and he finished last.

Uchimura graduated from Nippon Sport Science University in March 2011. Upon graduation, he joined the Konami Sports & Life Co., a company involved in electronic entertainment and gaming. He competes for the company's corporate gymnastics team.
