Laird Hamilton was a member of the "Strapped" crew, a group of friends who sought to push the restrictions and boundaries of contemporary big wave surfing. Laird Hamilton surfed a wave considered the most dangerous ever at Tahiti's Teahupoo break. Laird Hamilton is married to professional volleyball player Gabrielle Reece and has two daughters.
Laird Hamilton was born John Zerfas on February 3, 1964 in San Francisco, California, but spent most of his childhood in Oahu, Hawaii.
