Laura Kathleen from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. She is a 26-year-old designer and fashion design teacher from St. Louis, Missouri. She previously worked as an event coordinator and executive of Softline for Target.
The first garment she ever made was a pair of pajamas when she was 8 years old. She says, "They are totally '90s." She realized she had design potential almost since the day she was born. She never changed her mind that she wanted to work in fashion, even though she was a tomboy all through elementary school. She began sewing when she was eight and later earned a Bachelor of Science in design, merchandising and textiles. She was named to the FACS Honor Society.
Her favorite designers are Balenciaga, Christopher Bailey, Akris, Cartier, and Narciso Rodriguez. Kathleen considers a tailored blazer, great-fitting jeans and a designer leather bag to be fashion musts. She says her design strengths are good taste, great tailoring skills, and a good knowledge of textiles; she can predict what's good and knows how to dress and style.
She designs in a pin-up and vintage style mixed with modern techniques; she also likes to manipulate fabric and layer prints. When she's designing, she likes listening to Adele or anything from rock to country or jazz , depending on her mood.
