Lauren Crandall is a field hockey player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Lauren Crandall captained the USA Women's National Team that upset the tournament favorites and reigning world champions, Argentina, 4-2, at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. With the win, Team USA claimed their first ever Pan American gold medal and earns an automatic Olympic berth.

Crandall was a member of the 2008 Olympic Team in Beijing. The Americans completed the tournament having earned a win against New Zealand and draws with Argentina, Japan and Britain. The team's other loss was to defending Olympic champion Germany. The draw with Argentina, the world's No. 2-ranked team, was the highlight. It was the first time the U.S. had qualified for the Olympics since 1996, when it was given a host bid, and won its way in for the first time since the 1988 games.

Crandall is a graduate of Wake Forest University. In 2004, the Demon Deacons won the NCAA national title. She says that her senior year there, 2006, was particularly difficult, as she balanced schoolwork, with Deacons hockey, with national team competition, including a trip to the 2006 Hockey World Cup, where the Americans finished in sixth place. Crandall was first named to the national team when she was only a sophomore at Wake Forest, and she attended her first competition internationally that year in New Zealand.

Crandall says she pretty much tried every sport growing up, but found hockey at the age of 13, and was hooked. She then participated in USA Hockey's futures program, before competing at the 2001 AAU Junior Olympic Games. From Pennsylvania, she led Central Bucks East to the state championship in 2002. By 2004, she was named to the USA under-21 team. One year later, she joined the senior national team.

Crandall's dad played football and basketball in high school and her mom was a cheerleader. She is the youngest of four siblings, with an older brother and two older sisters. She says that the family was always involved in sports growing up, and that they were always traveling somewhere for tournaments. All participated collegiately: Shane went to Juniata College and played basketball, Lindsey played soccer at St. Joseph's University, and Kailey played soccer at Elon.

Before the 2008 Beijing Games, Crandall lived in a house with a friend from high school and a former teammate about three miles outside of downtown San Diego, where the U.S. team. A typical day starts around 6:30 a.m., and ends with weight training about 4:30. Most of Team USA's meals are taken together at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
