Laurie Underwood from "Project Runway 2015" is one of the contestants in Season 14 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. She is a 29-year-old designer from Chicago, Illinois. She was raised though in Detroit, Michigan.

This self-employed fashion designer of Wanda Grace got her start at the Illinois Institute of Art. Laurie's designs are influenced by women who display their confidence and who they are through their own personal style. Laurie is inspired by the Belizean culture and enjoys designing with exotic prints and bold colors.

Why she'll win? Filled with drive and dedication, Laurie is able to create looks that allow for women to stand out, while fitting in at the same time. Laurie is determined to prove that nothing can stop a woman with passion, courage and talent.

Laurie's favorite designer is Victoria Beckham, while her style icons are Tacee Ellis Ross, Solange Knowles, Janelle Monae and Victoria Beckham. Laurie's favorite past "Project Runway" designers are Christian Siriano, Michael Costello and Sonja Williams.

Here is an interview with Laurie:

When did you realize you had designer potential?

During my senior thesis class in design school, I could sense that it was unexpected that I would complete my work successfully by both the students and the instructor. I'm not even sure what I thought at the time. I decided to just focus on the process of designing my collection, rather than worry about how it would turn out. The end result was a beautiful collection of women's ready-to-wear, praised by my instructor, with "in awe" looks from my classmates, and a sense of relief from myself. At that point, I realized that I could become the designer I've always dreamed of becoming.

Have you won any awards for your designs?

The Illinois Institute of Art 2006, Best in Show - Graduate Portfolio Show.

Strengths as a designer?

Creating looks that allow women to stand out, while fitting in at the same time.

Weaknesses as a designer?

Balancing my time appropriately to focus on creating a great collection.

Biggest fear as a designer?

Compromising who I am through style.

How did you end up auditioning for "Project Runway"?

After five years of getting a casting email, I decided it was time for me to stop playing it safe as a designer and take a risk. I'd never auditioned before, so I didn't know what I was getting into. I just took a leap of faith, and here I am!

Challenge you wish they'd bring back?

The candy challenge. I thought that was fun and creative, yet still challenging!

Challenge you hope they don't?

Anything with menswear. Sorry guys, I don't do menswear.

What's your take on team challenges?

I don't love them, nor do I hate them, but I do think team collaboration is necessary at some point. I think it challenges you to maintain who you are as designer in a group where many others are trying to do the same, while trying to producing cohesive work through unity.

Do you think you can win "Project Runway"?

I believe I could win because I simply believe in myself, and I have the drive and dedication to win. Many times, that's all it takes.
