Lin Dan is a badminton player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for China.

Lin Dan is a four-time world champion, five-time All England champion and the reigning Olympic champion and the current No.1 player in the world. He is widely considered to be the greatest badminton player of all time. By the age of 28, Lin had completed the "Super Grand Slam", having won all nine major titles in world badminton: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asia Championships. He is the first and only player to achieve this feat.

Lin Dan of China overpowered Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei in straight sets to win the gold medal in men's singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Top-seed Lin was in control from the outset and coasted to a 21-12, 21-8 win over the second-seeded Lee.

Despite his No. 1 ranking, Lin has drawn the ire of the media reporting on him. The South China Morning Post, China Daily and Daily Sunshine have all reported that Lin punched his coach, Ji Xinpeng, the 2000 gold medalist in Sydney. Apparently, Lin was unhappy with practice situations and physically confronted Ji before being restrained by teammates. No comments were initially issued, though Lin confirmed the confrontation on his website while saying certain aspects were not true, including the punch. Ji confirmed in his blog, as reported by China Daily, that the two had a disagreement but that Lin apologized afterward. Ji did not elaborate either way what Lin was specifically apologizing for.

At the Korea Open in January, Lin was involved in an altercation with South Korea's coach, Li Mao. Following a controversial line call against Lee Hyun-il in the event final, Lin approached the judge's chair to complain. While near the chair, Li said something to Lin Dan, who erupted in anger and threw his racket in the direction of the Korean coach. "He was talking and shouting endlessly at my back while I was competing," Lin said, as reported by the China Daily. "After the last controversial call, he was even verbally attacking the Chinese team with dirty words. So I chose to fight back." Super Dan would lose the match, 4-21, 23-21, 25-23.

Lin also has a history with defending Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat. Before the 2006 Asian Games, Hidayat told the Agence France Presse that Lin is, "a good player — off the courts I don't think he's a good person. Many players don't like Lin Dan. He's arrogant and doesn't talk to you." This came a couple months after Hidayat had walked off the court five points into a match with Lin.

The world's No. 1 player, also known as "Super Dan" to his fans, isn't all about displaying venom; he happens to be in a very successful relationship with women's No. 1 player Xie Xingfang. There are rumors the two might be married after the Olympics.
