Luis Hernandez from "Biggest Loser 2016" is one of the contestants featured in Season 17 of the NBC reality weight-loss competition series. He is teamed up with his twin brother, Roberto Hernandez. Luis is a physical, health, and driver's education teacher from Chicago, Illinois. His starting weight is 308 lbs.

Luis Hernandez says he has been overweight since birth, joking, "I came out fat." In 2012, he lost weight and promised himself never to hit the 300s again, but a year later he was over 300 pounds. The Chicago resident grew up in Cicero, Illinois, with his twin brother and teammate, Roberto, and his two older brothers. Luis was athletic despite his weight, playing football for four years in high school, two years in college and three years on a semi-pro football team, as well as wrestling in high school. He and his twin were the first in their family to attend college, with Luis earning his undergraduate degree in exercise science at Millikin University, and then studying school administration in graduate school at Governors State University.

A married father of two young boys, Luis says his children were his biggest motivation for going on "The Biggest Loser," and thinks a poor diet, lack of exercise and a love of eating led to his high cholesterol and current weight of 308 pounds. Now 36 years old, Luis looks forward to starting an afterschool 5K run with his students, running a marathon and being a healthy role model to the kids he teaches and coaches.
