Luke Van Horn from "Whale Wars" is the Communications Officer and a member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the Animal Planet reality docu-drama.
Born in the United States, Luke ("Whale Wars") was raised on a small dairy farm in southern Michigan. He attributes his strong work ethic and self-reliance to growing up in this environment.
Luke went on to explore the western United States, spending several years in the Rocky Mountains and most recently on the West Coast. It was during this thime that he developed a deep appreciation for the natural world and realized the importance to protect it.
In recent years, Luke has become increasingly concerned that our impact on the environment is readching a tipping point. He felt the best way to make a personal impact was to join Sea Shepherd in the southern ocean defending a mammal both cherished and decimated by humans.
When he's not on campaign, Luke works as a software engineer. In his free time, he enjoys trail running, sailing and hiking. He currently lives in Washington state.
