Born in Manchester, England, Marshal got her start in the play "Fireface" at the Royal Court Theatre. Soon thereafter, her performances in "Redundant" at the Royal Court Theatre and "Boston Marriage" at the Donmar Warehouse netted her the 2001 Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Best Newcomer and the 2002 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, respectively. Marshal's 2006 performance in The Hypochondriac at the Almeida Theatre garnered her a nomination at the Ian Charleson Awards and her 2008 performance in "The Pride" at the Royal Court Theatre earned her a spot on the longlist for the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Recently, she starred in the 2009 West End production, "Three Days of Rain," opposite James McAvoy.
Her TV credits include starring as Cleopatra in HBO's "Rome"; a role in the BBC One drama, "A Short Stay in Switzerland," alongside Julie Walters; and in Agatha Christie's "Marple."
In 2002 Marshal starred in "The Hours," alongside Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Ed Harris.
Marshal currently resides in Kings Cross, London.
