Marco Rodriguez stars in "Eastbound & Down" on HBO as Roger Hernandez, manager of the baseball team.
Marco Rodriguez is a native of Los Angeles from a family with a rich Latino heritage. "Even though I'm as American as they come, I'm proud of my cultural roots and thought it was important to keep my hispanic surname as an actor because it's part of my identity." Marco is also bilingual (English and Spanish) and, without a trace of an accent in either language, he is able to play a wide range of characters whether they be Latino, European, or even Native-American.
Marco received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Southern California. He also trained with notable acting coaches, Jeff Corey and Jose Quintero. After teaching briefly in the L.A. Unified School District, he embarked on a professional acting career with his debut as El Pachuco in the Mark Taper Forum production of "Zoot Suit." He then toured Europe with Luis Valdez's Teatro Campesino.
While at the Mark Taper Forum, he became a member of the Improvisational Theatre Project (now known as P.L.AY.) where he collaborated on the critically acclaimed play "School Talk." Other writing projects include the award-winning "Esperanza Del Valle" for the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (OSAP) and "Natividad," a solo Christmas play in Spanish.
A keen interest in the classics of the theatre motivated Marco to become a founding member of the East L.A. Classic Theatre, an organization dedicated to bringing classic dramatic literature to disadvantaged youth and exposing them to the theatrical experience in order to impact their over-all academic achievment.
His continued focus on the community prompted Marco to found "Dejando Huellas" ("Leaving a Trail") in 1998 a bilingual, drama outreach program in Pasadena, California, including coaching, workshops and performance opportunities for the underserved Latino population.
