Mare Winningham stars in History Channel's miniseries "Hatfields & McCoys," as Sally McCoy, the loving wife of Randall McCoy and mother of Roseanna, Tolbert, Phamer, Alifair, Calvin, Jim, Bud, and several more children. Emotionally complex with ominous premonitions, Sally is the undisputed matriarch of the McCoy family — and one of the most tragically affected by the feud's violence.

Mare Winningham is an Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actress who has appeared in more than fifty film and television projects. She received her seventh Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Ida Corwin in HBO's miniseries "Mildred Pierce," starring Kate Winslet.

For her performance in TNT's "George Wallace," Winningham received an Emmy Award as well as Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations. In addition, she received an Emmy Award for "Amber Waves" and has been Emmy nominated three other times for Hallmark's "Love Is Never Silent," Hallmark's "The Boy's Next Door," and NBC's "Law & Order: SVU." In 2003, she made her TV series debut in David E. Kelley's "The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire." In 2004, Winningham received a Daytime Emmy nomination for her performance in Salma Hayek's directorial debut "Maldonado Miracle" for Showtime.

For her performance in the feature film Georgia, Winningham garnered Academy Award and SAG Award nominations and Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her other feature credits include "Wyatt Earp," "St. Elmo's Fire," "Turner and Hooch," "Made in Heaven," "One Trick Pony," "The War," "Miracle Mile" and "Shy People." More recently, she had a supporting role opposite Kevin Costner in Disney's "Swing Vote" and opposite Tobey Magure, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman in "Brothers."

Following a starring role in CBS's "Clubhouse" and a recurring role in ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," Winningham made her New York stage debut in the musical "10 Million Miles," based on the music of Patty Griffin. An accomplished singer-songwriter, she occasionally performs in Los Angeles clubs and recently released a CD entitled "Refuge, Rock, Sublime." She also starred in a new musical, "Bonnie and Clyde," at the La Jolla Playhouse, appeared off-Broadway in "Tribes."

Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Winningham was raised and continues to live in Los Angeles.
