Maria Howell stars in "Revolution" on NBC as Grace.

A native North Carolinian, this multi-talented performer has worked in film, television and theater, both as a vocalist and actor. Maria Howell is best known for her signature film performance as the choir soloist in Steven Spielberg's "The Color Purple." With over 20 years experience, Howell has also worked with George Lucas ("Young Indiana Jones' Chronicles"), and Tyler Perry ("Daddy's Little Girls" and "Meet the Browns"). She appeared in the Lifetime original movie "Living Proof", starring Harry Connick, Jr., and has made guest appearances in "Army Wives," "Drop Dead Diva," "Past Life," "Detroit 1-8-7," "Necessary Roughness," "Single Ladies" and "The Vampire Diaries." She worked with Sandra Bullock in "The Blind Side" and can also be seen in "What to Expect When You're Expecting," starring Cameron Diaz.

As a singer, Howell has traveled extensively, wowing audiences throughout Asia. She has opened for such artists as Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, Will Downing and George Benson. Howell's music is a collective of sultry, soul ... and smooth, combining sounds such as R&B with jazzy punctuations. Since 2002, Maria has continued performing regularly on Mondays at Sambuca Jazz Café. She holds the longest stint of any performer in the Atlanta location.

Howell also spends time storytelling to elementary-school-aged children and involves them in the experience, enhancing their literacy skills as well as strengthening their confidence and self esteem. She also coaches actors and singers in stage performance.
