Marianne Vos is a cyclist competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the Netherlands.

In 2006 at the tender age of 19, Marianne Vos took home first place in the UCI Road World Championships road race, UCI Cyclocross World Championships, the European Road Championships road race, and the Netherlands Dutch National Road Championships road race.

Vos then won the points race at the UCI Track World Championships in 2008, making her the first ever woman to have won gold in three different disciplines: road racing, cyclocross, and track cycling.

Vos found Olympic success on the track, taking gold in the points race on the velodrome in Beijing. She'd also go on to win four more World Championship cyclocross titles. But a second win in the World Championship road race has proved elusive, with Vos — virtually unbeatable in all big events — taking five consecutive silver medals in the event. 2011 was a particularly crushing defeat, with the Dutch rider rolling across the line in tears.

As if the three disciplines of cycling weren't enough, Vos was also a successful inline and speed skater growing up in the Netherlands. She first raced on a bike when she was only 8 years old. At 5, she watched her first race, as her brother Anton was a competitive cyclist. She was immediately hooked, but her parents made her wait three years before racing.

Vos began developing a base for riding by biking to and from school growing up, a 24km ride each way, she told online magazine She Cycles. But that only constituted her base training. At night she would train for real, after she returned home.

According to Pro Tour News, Vos has a cat named Chiapoessie, who is named after former Italian road racer Claudio Chiappucci.

Vos doesn't just spend her time impressing in the world of sports. She also studied biomedical science.
