Mark Ballas from "Dancing with the Stars" is one of the professional dancers featured in the ABC reality ballroom dance competition. For Season 13, he is partnered with reality TV star Kristin Cavallari.
After a stunning elimination in his Season 5 debut with partner Sabrina Bryan ("Cheetah Girls"), Ballas partnered Kristi Yamaguchi to the championship in Season 6. In Season 7 of the show, he and partner Kim Kardashian were the third couple eliminated, finishing in 11th place. Determined to do better, he returned for Season 8 with Olympic Gold Medalist gymnast Shawn Johnson and won the competition. The only other professional dancers to have won two seasons are Julianne Hough and Cheryl Burke. In Season 10, he and Shannen Doherty were the very first pair eliminated, but he rebounded the next season when he danced his way with Bristol Palin into 3rd place. For Season 12, he was teamed up with Disney star, Chelsea Kane, and once again came in 3rd place.
Mark Ballas was born in Houston, Texas, to Shirley and Corky Ballas, two of the biggest names in dance. When he was very young, they moved to London, England where he began his performing career. Mark joined the Italia Conti Academy of Dramatic Arts Associate School at age 4, where his training in acting and singing/dancing began. At age 11, he earned a full-time spot at the Academy. He also earned a full scholarship to the college and won performer of the year in 2005.
Ballas has also performed in theater. He played the lead in the musical Copa Cabana, as well as playing roles in "Maria de Buenos Aires," "The Buddy Holly Musical" and at the London Palladium.
His dancing partner, Julianne Hough, and her brother Derek Hough moved to England when they were young and lived with Ballas and his parents. There, they were trained by Mark's parents, Corky and Shirley Ballas. They became close friends and still are to this day.
Ballas's biggest passion is his band "Almost Amy." Together with his best friend and fellow dancer, Derek Hough, they write and perform all their original music.
Ballas's father, Corky Ballas, has also been featured on "Dancing with the Stars."
