Mark Caruso from "Survivor: South Pacific" is one of the contestants on Season 23 of the CBS reality competition series. He is 48 years old and is from Forest Hills, New York. He was a NYPD morgue detective for over 20 years before he retired with honors from the mayor and police commissioner. He starts off the season as part of the Savaii tribe.

Mark Caruso ("Survivor: South Pacific") describes himself as funny, sarcastic and lovable. He enjoys going to the gym and all that goes with it, spending as much time in the sun as he can, meeting new people and making new friends. His pet peeves include know-it-alls and people with "I am better than you" attitudes.

His inspiration in life is his deceased Aunt Mary, who brought him and his siblings to her home, raised them and gave them a great life. When asked which past "Survivor" contestant he is most like, he says, "I haven't seen anyone like me." Why did he come on the show? "I want to experience being stripped of life's luxuries that we all take for granted and survive with the bare essentials."

Why does he think he'll "survive" on the show? "I am attentive and caring and have listening skills that can be supportive to my team and others. I love to work hard and have proven throughout my life that I will be a leader." Why does he think he'll ultimately win? "People tend to like me because I am an honest person even though I am sarcastic and an 'in your face' man. I am considered a real person heart, mind and soul."
