Mark Ghanimé stars in "Helix" on Syfy as Major Sergio Balleseros.

Born in Calgary and raised in Montreal, Mark Ghanimé is half Lebanese and trilingual. His first foray into the world of acting was a series of catchy independent commercials for a beer company. He trained at the Company of Rogues Actors Studio in Calgary and under the tutelage of Matthew Harrison at the Actor's Foundry. In late 2009 he was cast as Graham, a principal role on an episode of CBC's "Wild Roses," opposite series lead Steve Byers. Ghanimé also appeared on The CW's long-running hit series "Smallville" and then the following spring, he appeared as Dr. Drake on "Supernatural."

Since then, he has guest starred in "The Secret Circle," "Fairly Legal" and "Arrow." He is perhaps best known though for his recurring role as Dr. Jamie Albagetti on The CW's "Emily Owens, M.D." and for starring as Daniel Goose-Egg in the web series "Soldiers of the Apocalypse." In addition, he starred in the independent film "One Night in Seattle."
