Martin Cummins stars in "When Calls the Heart" on Hallmark Channel as Henry Gowen.

Canadian actor Martin Cummins has had recurring roles in A&E's "Bates Motel," Syfy's "Eureka," ABC's remake of "V," ABC Family's "Kyle XY" and The CW's "Smallville."

Cummins attended the Vancouver Actors Studio where he trained under Mel Tuck, a highly respected pioneer of Canadian Theatre. Cummins guest-starred in a number of US and Canadian television shows before landing the part of Nick Boyle in the MGM series "Poltergeist: The Legacy," which was filmed in Vancouver. He played the character for four years and was given the chance to direct three episodes. Cummins also went on to direct episodes of another well-known MGM series – "The Outer Limits."

Once "Poltergeist: The Legacy" finished, Martin continued to guest star in other series that were being filmed in Vancouver and eventually won the recurring role of Ames White in the second season of FOX's "Dark Angel." His next foray into television was in the Canadian-British series "Dice," based on the books by Luke Rhinehart. Cummins played police detective Patrick Styvesant, who goes searching for the killer of college student Sally Quinn and gets embroiled in the strange world of people who live by the throw of dice. Cummins was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2002 for his work.

Cummins has also appeared in a number of genre films such as "Omen IV: The Awakening" and "Friday the 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan." He had small parts in other films such as "The Substitute," "Other Women's Children," "Cyberteens in Love" and the Wesley Snipes film "Liberty Stands Still."

While filming "Poltergeist: The Legacy," Cummins started to write his semi-autobiographical film "We All Fall Down" along with Richard C. Burton. Cummins produced and directed the independent film which was nominated for 3 Leo Awards and co-star Helen Shaver won a Genie award for her performance as a prostitute.

Cummins won an award for his performance as Matthew in Clement Virgo's "Love Come Down" and was also nominated for a 2011 Leo Award for Best Supporting Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series for his portrayal of Detective Terry Rhodes in the "Shattered" episode entitled "Out of Sorrow."
