Maulik Pancholy stars in "Whitney" on NBC as Neal.

Maulik Pancholy told his parents that he wanted to be an actor at the age of five, at a time when there weren't many people who looked like him acting in American television or film. Undeterred by the lack of Indian Americans on screen, he honed his craft at Northwestern University, the Groundlings Improv school, and the prestigious Yale School of Drama.

Pancholy plays Jonathan on the multiple Emmy Award-winning, NBC series "30 Rock," and Sanjay on the Showtime hit "Weeds." As a high-strung executive assistant on one, and a gay drug dealer on the other, both roles have been recognized for breaking through the stereotypes of "brown people" so often perpetuated on television. Pancholy's other television credits include "The Comeback," "Tracey Takes On," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "The Sopranos." He is also the voice of Baljeet on the Emmy Award-winning animated series "Phineas and Ferb" on the Disney Channel.

His filmwork—which has given him the chance to play opposite the likes of Will Smith, Helen Mirren and Frances McDormand—includes "27 Dresses," "Hitch," "Love Ranch," "Friends with Money," and several independent features. He is currently filming the Seth Gordon directed film "Horrible Bosses" with Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell.

Maulik received a Screen Actors Guild Award alongside the cast of "30 Rock" as well as two additional SAG nominations (one for "Weeds" and one for "30 Rock") for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. He was honored by the Asian American Arts Alliance in New York, and was nominated for a NewNowNext Award.

He has been involved with non-profit and social policy organizations such as South Asians for Obama, South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow, and The American India Foundation. He frequently speaks to student groups at universities across the country about stereotypes in the media and the challenges facing actors of color. Maulik is also training for his first triathlon through Team in Training to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
