Born in Hampstead, London, UK, Max Minghella is the son of Academy Award-winning director film director Anthony Minghella. After seeing a production of the play "This Is Our Youth" at London's West End Minghella was inspired to become an actor. He subsequently dropped out of the University College School in Hampstead and enrolled at the National Youth Theatre. Minghella later attended Columbia University.
His feature film debut, which came after an uncredited appearance in his father's "Cold Mountain," was in 2005's "Bee Season," which garnered mixed reviews. Minghella next played the son of George Clooney's character in "Syriana" and then starred in Daniel Clowes's "Art School Confidential," alongside John Malkovich.
In 2007 Minghella appeared in South by Southwest film festival-premiering "Elvis and Anabelle," opposite Blake Lively. Then in 2008 Minghella starred in Alejandro Amenábar's international box office hit "Agora," alongside Rachel Weisz. The historical epic was Spain's highest grossing film of 2009 and the winner of seven Goya Awards. Minghella was also seen that year in "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" with Simon Pegg and in "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men."
