Melissa Doss from "Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge" is one of the contestants on the Syfy reality competition series. She is a freelance special effects artist and housewife from Fort Wainwright, Arkansas. She grew up though in Big Bear, California. She says, "I'll play nice until I have to bring the claws out."

Melissa Doss is returning home to Southern California after living for a year in Alaska with her husband who is in the army. Her mother is her biggest supporter and her father is a highway patrolman with a drafting background and a handyman attitude. Her father is the one Melissa calls during the eleventh hour of any grueling project, and it is her dream to be able to open up a shop with him. Half Cuban, Melissa has a loving Hispanic family comprised of "loud and creative people" who appreciate "lots of food and hugs."

Melissa has cultivated her creature training through interning, rather than formal education. She loves puppets, motion capture and stop motion, and this passion drives her talent. Melissa considers the Henson brand to be a huge part of her childhood. She expects the competition to be intense and while she isn't as experienced as some of her competitors, she is competitive. Foam fabrication and patterning are her strengths, but she's more than a little bit nervous about animatronics. As a young a bubbly female, she recognizes she is not the typical person in an effects shop.
