Chris Vance on "Mental" Mental Pictures FOX's "Mental" follows Dr. Jack Gallagher (Chris Vance), a dynamic, young, and radically unorthodox psychiatrist. When Gallagher is named Director of Mental Health Services at a Los Angeles hospital on FOX's "Mental," he turns a medical institution on its ear. Everything changes as Gallagher's radical methods and ideology inflame the staff and upset the system as a whole on FOX's "Mental," and he must reconcile his effective, yet highly unorthodox treatment methods with his conservative boss, hospital administrator Nora Skoff (Annabella Sciorra), a woman with whom he shares a romantic past. FOX's "Mental" is a medical drama that explores the complexities of the human mind as never before. To Jack, each case is a puzzle to be solved and each week on "Mental," confronted with a different patient's crisis, including unknown, misunderstood, and even misdiagnosed conditions, Gallagher must plunge inside the mind of his patient long enough to gain true understanding of that patient, and to uncover what just might be the key to long-term recovery. Ever the rebel, Jack insists on getting to the root of his patients' illnesses on FOX's "Mental" by exploring first who they are as human beings. Patients find themselves at the hospital on FOX's "Mental" for a variety of reasons: some are brought in by the police on 72-hour holds, some are self-admitted and some are there to attend the day clinic, seeking to overcome the phobias and psychoses that make everyday life a struggle. Unfortunately, his colleagues on "Mental" remain resistant to his unorthodox, though highly effective, treatment methods, including dedicated psychiatrist Dr. Veronica Hayden-Jones (Jacqueline McKenzie), who is upset she wasn't promoted to Jack's position, a job for which she feels uniquely suited, and Dr. Carl Belle (Derek Webster), a master politician with a polished exterior who is dedicated to Jack's downfall. As seen through the eyes of doctors and patients who, as Jack points out, have more in common then they're willing to admit, FOX's "Mental" also tracks the romantic and personal relationships of the team of doctors and hospital staff who work closely together as they delve into the mysteries, oddities and wonders of the human brain, including first-year resident Dr. Arturo Suarez (Nicholas Gonzalez)—young and cocky, but good at his job, he actually gets a charge out of Jack's unorthodox ways; Dr. Chloe Artis (Marisa Ramirez), drop-dead gorgeous with an attitude and very strong opinions, she's passing time in a residency she feels is beneath her until Gallagher opens her mind to the inspirational benefits of psychiatry; and Malcolm Darius Washington (Edwin Hodge), a nurse who pulled himself out of the impoverished neighborhood he grew up in to pursue his career. "Mental" is from Fox Television Studios in association with Fox International Channels and is executive-produced by Deborah Joy LeVine ("Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "The Division") and her brother and writing/producing partner, Dan Levine.
