He began his career as a corporate motivational speaker in 1997 shortly after making history at the 1996 Olympics becoming the first man to ever win gold at 200 meters and 400 meters. So impressive was his performance under so much pressure that he was soon being sought by some of the largest companies in the world to share his formula for success. He has also appeared as a television commentator and personality, working for BBC sports.

After winning the 400 meters and 4x400 relay at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, he retired, finishing his career with 20 international gold medals without a single silver or bronze. Since his retirement, Johnson has excelled as a keynote speaker having worked with such companies as Microsoft, UBS, Sony and Proctor & Gamble to name a few. Johnson's appeal is global, taking him to such places as Australia Europe, South Africa, and China to motivate and inspire employees of some of the world's leading organizations.

At the 2000 Olympic Games, Johnson again dazzled the world under the stadium lights in Sydney when he became the first sprinter in history to win consecutive Olympic Gold Medals in the 400m. To top off his career total eighteen gold medals, Johnson earned grand number 19 in the 4x400m relay. Johnson chose to end his career after his double Olympic gold medal effort at the 2000 Olympic Games, finishing his career with an impressive total of 19 championship gold medals, 0 bronze, and 0 silver.



Since his retirement from track & field, he founded a successful sport management and consulting company, Ultimate Performance, working with clients ranging from the Chinese Athletic Association to some of the most successful NFL football players. He represents some of the top track and field athletes in the world, including his successor at 400 meters, 2004 Olympic and 2005 World Champion, Jeremy Wariner.

A graduate with a marketing degree from Baylor University, Johnson, currently serves as the president of Michael Johnson Performance, a training facility in McKinney, Texas.
