Michael Simeon from "American Idol 2015" is one of the top 24 contestants in Season 14 of the FOX reality singing competition. He sang "Stay with Me" by Sam Smith for his audition in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a farmer from Lumberton, Mississippi.

Michael Simeon is the winner of multiple local contests, including Ole Miss Idol, and was a contestant in the executive producer rounds of "The X Factor" and "America's Got Talent."

Here is an interview with Michael:

When did you first start singing?

Before I can remember in show choir practices with my mother who was a show choir director at the time.

What role does music play in your life?

Music is one of the few constants in my life. Regardless of where I am, what I am doing, or what situations arise music is always there to get me through tough times, and to help me to celebrate happy times. I believe that music can touch your soul, and that I can use it to touch the hearts of others all over the world.

What makes you unique?

I have a positive view of every situation. I can write a song about nearly any topic. I know that the pursuit of music is a journey with multiple destinations but that there is no ultimate ending to your journey. I realize that there is only growth. You can never be done learning or growing as an artist. I also believe myself to be such an artist. I believe that with each performance, each note, each written song, I possess the ability to convey that feeling and translate it to an audience. As a physical artist paints his or her painting on canvas, I as a musician paint mine on silence, and I believe that I possess a quality that will allow the world to see it.

Do you have a wish list of writers you'd like to write with? If so, who?

There are a large number of extremely talented songwriters in the industry, which makes it difficult to decide, but if I had to choose a top three it would most likely be: John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and Bruno Mars

What are your top three all-time favorite songs and why?

1. "House of the Rising Sun" by Animals. It's so beautiful and can be sung in so many different ways.

2. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" by John Mayer. It's always been one of my favorite songs to perform. It's raw and it's real, and really hits home with people who are in failing relationships.

3. "Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. I sang this song for the first time in high school and have loved it ever since. It showcases vocal range as well as illustrates a tough time in America's past. A time that should be recognized, but not dwelled upon.

What is your strongest musical strength?

My ability to express emotion simply through my voice without unnecessary theatrics.

What is your greatest musical weakness?

I believe that weakness is in your mind. I think that any small fault can be turned into a strength if you are truly an artist.

Who are your top three favorite and most influential artists?

1. Tyler Ward. He's a guy that got his start on YouTube and now goes on world tours as an independent artist. He's real and down to earth and he's always in a great mood. Also he's a great producer, as he produces all of his own music.

2. John Mayer. Incredible musician. He writes the most intricate songs and ladies everywhere love him for his writing and his smooth breathy voice.

3. Ariana Grande. Ariana got her start on a Nickelodeon show. Since then she has been dominating the music scene. She's got a range in vocals that is virtually unmatched and she has a drive that any successful artist needs.

If you had to pattern your career after another artist, who would it be and why?

John Mayer, because he has millions of young men and women who are in love with his music and he has a consistent career. He did not have a number one hit and then fall off, he has been consistent in his releases.

Why do you think you should be the next "American Idol"?

I think I should be the next "American Idol," because I have a certain quality that allows me to make people feel my music. Not everyone has such a quality to their voice or performance and I think that having it will set me apart to America.
