A native of Rockford, Ilinois, Michelle Williams began her remarkable singing career in her church's choir before joining Destiny's Child in 2000. Along with her bandmates Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, the trio took their groundbreaking fusion of gospel harmonies, R&B beats and "bootylicious" dance moves to an explosive level. They sold nearly 20 million albums in the United States, won three Grammy Awards, had a string of smash-hit singles—including "Say My Name," "Survivor" and "Independent Women Part 1"—and became one of the most popular female groups in the world. Michelle Williams was the first of the Destiny's Child girls to explore solo terrain while still with the group by releasing two contemporary gospel recordings: "Heart to Yours," featuring a collaboration with the legendary Shirley Caesar, and "Do You Know." In 2003, Michelle Williams wowed audiences in the Broadway musical "Aida." Michelle Williams then turned her newfound talent into a role on the TV series "Half & Half." In 2007, Michelle Williams took on her greatest acting challenge when she joined the cast of the Broadway hit "The Color Purple" for its national tour, where she dazzled in the role of Shug Avery. At the end of 2008, Michelle Williams is set to release an electrifying dance album, "Unexpected." The first single, "We Break the Dawn," has already set the clubs on fire, hitting #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart. As a judge on "MTV's Top Pop Group," Michelle Williams brings both a refined ear and exceptional knowledge of what it really takes to make it in the music industry.
