Mondo Guerra from "Project Runway All Stars" is one of the designers competing in the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. Mondo ("Project Runway 8") won three challenges in a row in Season 8 of "Project Runway" with his eye-popping and heart-felt designs. He bravely revealed his HIV positive status on the show, placing second in one of the show's most talked-about endings ever. He is a freelance designer from Denver, Colorado.
The first garment Mondo Guerra ever made was a pair of blue and red faux-fur pants. He first realized he had potential as a designer when he was in high school and started going to raves and thrift stores; he bought a glue gun and started to experiment. He has worked in retail and as a piano teacher, teacher's aide, and fashion designer. He says his "'schooling" has been on-the-job experience in millinery, fashion and theater. He has won FGI Young Designer in 2002, Project Tamarac Grand Prize in 2007, and Style Wars, Denver Art Museum in 2009.
When he's designing, he likes listening to movie scores, Steely Dan, Queen, Bowie, Supertramp, Michael Jackson (R.I.P.) and Tori Amos. He thinks accessories are a fashion must.
His favorite designers are Paco Rabanne, Schiaparelli, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Edith Head, Gareth Pugh and Vivienne Westwood.
