NEW YORK, NY — History today announced that the U.S. version of "Top Gear," was given the greenlight for season 2. The critically-acclaimed and popular series attracted the youngest viewers of any series on History ever. Overall nearly 60 million tuned in to Season 1.

Season 2 of "Top Gear" on History, based on the award-winning BBC series, will begin production this spring. "Top Gear" is a co-production between History and BBC Worldwide.

The series is hosted by comedian Adam Ferrara, champion rally and drift racer Tanner Foust and racing analyst Rutledge Wood. John Hesling is Executive Producer. Russ McCarroll is Executive Producer for History.

Jeremy Clarkson, host of the UK version, commented on History's version, "'Top Gear' is our baby so you can understand why Hammond, May and I were anxious about passing it on to the presenters of the US show. We needn't have worried because 'Top Gear' is clearly in safe hands, even if they do insist on speaking in those stupid accents. Watching an episode from series 1 with Richard and James, we found ourselves in a genuinely heated debate about which of the presenters' cars was best. We were just three ordinary chaps watching a car show and loving it, which is exactly what 'Top Gear' should be. Bring on series 2."

Featuring super-cars, extreme stunts and challenges, car reviews and celebrity interviews, "Top Gear" is the home for anyone with a love of cars. The U.S. version is chock-full of high-adrenaline action entertainment as it tracks the colorful history of the automobile as well as the eccentric adventures of its hosts with "Top Gear's" customary wit and humor. The series harkens back to History's very first day, and the network's very first program ever to air, Automobiles: Corvette.

"Top Gear," which premiered in the UK in 1977 is consistently BBC Two's most-watched program in the UK. "Top Gear" also reaches over 150 million households globally and currently airs on BBC America. One of the BBC's premiere brands, Top Gear, the magazine, is the leading car publication in the UK, and the global road tour, "Top Gear Live," proved to be a great success in 2009
