Niall Matter stars in "Eureka" on Syfy as Zane Donovan. When Zane arrived in Eureka during Season 2, his brilliant mind—and unfortunate love of applying it to criminal pursuits—made his welcome somewhat uncertain. Then, during Season 3, Zane appeared to be headed for the straight and narrow. A serious and tender romance also seemed possible but, as Season 4 begins, everyone in Eureka faces cataclysmic changes and Zane is no exception.
Niall Matter has appeared in several recent television series including "Fear Itself," "Melrose Place" and SyFy's "Warehouse 13." In 2009, Matter played the role of Mothman in the Warner Bros. feature film, "Watchmen," directed by Zack Snyder.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Matter began acting in high school and was named Best Male Actor at the Alberta High School Zone Provincials in his graduating year. His interest in film came early; Matter was writer/director/star of his own short films from the age of 13. Following graduation, Matter moved to Vancouver. He graduated from Vancouver Film School and divided his time between auditions in Vancouver and hard work in the Alberta oil patch. His first lead role was in the Syfy original movie "Beyond Loch Ness." He followed up with the lead role of Trent Hamilton in the series "The Best Years." He also had a featured role in the series "Heaven or Something Like It," was a guest star on "Fear Itself," had a recurring guest slot on "Stargate Atlantis" and had a lead role in the feature "Dr. Dolittle First Dog."
