Nicole Joraanstad is competing in the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver in curling.
A relatively late start in the sport didn't hamper Nicole Joraanstad, who was introduced to curling when she was 15 by her father, Gary, who played on nationally-competitive curling teams. Her team made it to the U.S. Junior Nationals her first year in the sport, and, after returning, Nicole began to focus solely on curling. Three years later, she moved to Madison to study business at the University of Wisconsin—and to be closer to the heart of the sport.
Nicole joined Team McCormick in 2006 and is the youngest member of the rink. She's considered to be the team manager and coordinates all of the logistics, including making every single flight arrangement and filling out all of the paperwork for competitions.
Nicole has several curling-themed tattoos, including one of a curling stone with "USA" in the middle and a design on the middle of her lower back. "I kind of have this deal that anytime I win a national championship, I am going to get a tattoo," she says. "This could get terminated at anytime; I might win too often."
Nicole is a senior corporate recruiter for TDS Telecom in Madison, Wisconsin, and recently became engaged. Running and fitness are among her hobbies, and she also enjoys cooking.
