Paterson Joseph is a versatile actor with substantial experience in film, television and the theater. His film credits include "The Other Man," opposite Laura Linney, Antonio Banderas and Liam Neeson, "├ćon Flux," starring Charlize Theron, Danny Boyle's "The Beach," starring Leonardo Di Caprio, "Greenfingers," alongside Clive Owen and Helen Mirren, and Jim Sheridan's "In the Name of the Father," starring Daniel Day Lewis.

On UK television, Joseph recently was seen in Channel 4's "Peep Show." Other television credits include a number of BBC series, such as "Case Histories," "Survivors," where where he played series regular Greg Preston, "Casualty," as series regular Mark Grace, "That Mitchell and Webb Look," "Hyperdrive," the miniseries "Jekyll," the comedy "My Dad's the Prime Minister," "Silent Witness," "Waking the Dead," "Between the Lines" and director Danny Boyle's "Not Even God Is Wise Enough." Other television credits include ITV's miniseries "Boy Meets Girl" and the series "William and Mary," "Neverwhere," "The Bill," "Sam Saturday," "Dead at Thirty" and "Streetwise." He also appeared in "Soldier Soldier," "Cold Feet," Channel 4's sitcom "Green Wing" and the hard-hitting drama "Sex Traffic."

Paterson's real love has been theater, where he has appeared in many Shakespearean productions, including "Julius Caesar," "Troilus and Cressida," "Henry IV," "Hamlet," "Love's Labour Lost," "King Lear" and "The Tempest." Productions at the National Theatre include Eugene O' Neill's "The Emperor Jones," "Saint Joan," Peter Shaffer's "The Royal Hunt of the Sun," as God and Sun-King Atahualpa, "Whale," "The Recruiting Officer" and "Elmina's Kitchen." Roles at The Royal Exchange in Manchester, include "Blues for Mr. Charlie," a civil rights era play by James Baldwin; "Les Blancs," a colonial drama by Lorraine Hansberry, for which he won the Barclays TMA zwards for Best Actor in 2001; and "Othello."

Joseph decided to try his hand at acting when he got bored of being a chef at 18 years old. He went to the Cockpit Youth Theatre in Marylebone and loved it. A couple of years later he went to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and left in 1988. His first job was at the Bush Theatre playing an angry young man in Lucy Gannon's "Raping the Gold," for which he won the London Fringe award for Best Actor. He then went halfway round the world with "Cheek by Jowl" and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for a couple of years.
