Paul Bedard from "Gator Boys" stars in the Animal Planet reality docu-series.

Paul Bedard ("Gator Boys") grew up in rural southeastern New England. Starting at a young age Paul spent most of his time exploring nature. He would routinely go on long bicycle rides to explore new areas and find animals. He often made the nearly 30-mile round trip bike ride to Rattlesnake Hill in search of Timber Rattlesnakes, catching his first at the age of 12. "I'm lucky I didn't get killed. I caught it with a stick

and a pillow case ... and then road home with it tied to my handle bars.. I probably caught 8 or 10 out there over the next 3 years. I don't know how I wasn't bitten."

While earning a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Paul became an elite level triathlete. At 24 years old, Paul became the youngest athlete to finish a Double Iron Triathlon (4.8 mile swim, 224 mile bike and a 52.4 mile run; all done back-to-back without stopping). By 1998 Paul's weekly training regiment often consisted of 5 to 10 miles of swimming; 500 to 600 miles of cycling and over 100 miles of running. In 1999 the long training helped him win the Oddessy Double Iron Triathlon.

Cutting his triathlon training by almost two thirds in the off-season left Paul with time for other things like spear-fishing and diving with sharks in the Florida Keys with childhood friends. He also learned to catch and wrestle alligators with swamp legend Mike "Skeet" Johns, former owner and curator of the Native Village in Hollywood, Florida. Paul began catching venomous snakes in the Big Cypress Swamp. Before long, Paul began working with his partner Jimmy Riffle, whom he met at the Native Village. "Jimmy has become like a brother to me; I've seen him go from a little redneck kid to one of the best gator and animal handlers in the world." Over the years Paul has worked with animals of all kinds, including gators, sharks, crocodiles, venomous snakes, bears and big cats.
