Hunter Ellishas a passion for adventure that has led him to travel the world as a pilot, outdoor enthusiast, and television host. The son and grandson of Navy Admirals,Hunter Ellisenjoyed an exciting childhood surrounded by the smell of jet fuel and aircraft carriers. Moving from city to city every few years instilledHunter Elliswith a strong sense of adventure. After graduating from the University of Southern California,Hunter Ellisbegan his flight training for the US Navy where he graduated first in his class and was selected to fly the F/A-18 Hornet, making him the third consecutive generation of Naval fighter pilots in his family.Hunter Elliswent on to complete two Middle East deployments in support of Operations Southern Watch and Desert Strike, and accumulate over 2000 flight hours and 433 carrier landing, with over 100 of those at night.Hunter Elliswas also a qualified F/A-18C Flight Demonstration Pilot and Landing Signals Officer.Hunter Elliscompleted his military career in the summer of 2001 after over 10 years of service and was hired as a pilot for Federal Express.Hunter Ellisdiscovered his interest in television in 1999 while working as a technical advisor for Pensacola: Wings of Gold, which was loosely based on the F/A-18 squadron at MCAS Miramar where he spent his last 3 years in the military as a Tactics Instructor. In 2002,Hunter Elliswas approached by the History Channel to host the military technology series "Tactical to Practical." Always ready for new challenges,Hunter Elliswelcomed the opportunity to explore the military's most interesting and exciting innovations. During three whirlwind seasons his energetic spirit led him to the center of countless heart-stopping adventures.Hunter Ellisskydived solo with the Army's Golden Knights, flown with both the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds, and jumped out of helicopters with the Coast Guard's rescue swimmers, just to name a few.The action-packed hit series led People Magazine to recognize Hunter Ellisas one of the "Sexiest Men on Cable TV" in their Sexiest Man Alive issue in late 2003. It also grabbed the attention of KCBS in Los Angeles, whereHunter Ellisbegan hosting numerous specials on location, giving viewers a look behind the scenes of the hit show "Survivor."Hunter Ellisalso became co-host of the KCBS/KCAL evening magazine show, "9 on the Town." For 2 years,Hunter Elliscovered topics that were relevant and important to Southern Californians... from the best places to travel to in Mexico... to LA's finest shops and restaurants.... to the best weekend getaways.Hunter Ellishas also hosted numerous specials for networks such as HGTV ("Extreme Yachts") and Speed Channel ("Test Drive"), and is well known for his willingness to get hands on in every activity.Hunter Ellisjust finished his sixth season with the History Channel, following his series "Man, Moment, Machine" by hosting the fourth season of "Digging for the Truth," the network's adventure archaeology series.Hunter Ellisrappelled off 1500-foot cliffs in Peru, dove the frigid waters off of England, and climbed to the bottom of gold mines in West Africa to shed light on the most recent discoveries surrounding some the world's oldest cultures.Hunter Ellis's programs have been recognized both nationally and regionally with numerous Telly awards and Emmy nominations. In 2003Hunter Ellisreceived an LA Emmy nomination for hosting "Countdown to Survivor: The Amazon" for KCBS, and in 2006, he received an LA Emmy for hosting "Hola! Survivor : Guatemala," also for KCBS.Hunter Ellis's love of travel has taken him to over thirty-five countries on six continents, and even in his free time he continues to seek out new adventures. In November of 2006, while on a break from shooting,Hunter Elliscompleted a 150-mile foot race across the Sahara desert because he had always wanted to see Egypt. An avid outdoorsman,Hunter Elliscan often be found enjoying the beaches and mountains of California training for the next challenge, living his belief that the pursuit of knowledge is best rewarded through active participation.
