Quentin Alexander from "American Idol 2015" is one of the top 24 contestants in Season 14 of the FOX reality singing competition. He sang "Royals" by Lorde for his audition in New Orleans, Louisiana. Quentin is a retail associate from Nola, Louisiana.

Quentin Alexander graduated from McDonogh 35 Senior High School in 2011.

Here is an interview with Quentin:

When did you first start singing?

I first started singing at the age of six but it wasn't serious. My cousins and I would always learn, sing, and write songs when we got together. And since then I've always done it on my own time. I didn't start "pursuing" it until my sophomore year in high school when I joined a youth center.
What role does music play in your life?

Music is one of my only releases. It's an indirect way for me to express myself. It has given me so many opportunities to travel at a young age, introduced me to different people and ways of life. Throughout my life it has helped me face situations and grow not only as an artist but as a human being.
What makes you unique?

What makes me unique is my style. I incorporate everything that I've been exposed to throughout my life into my art. Growing up in New Orleans has a lot to do with what makes me different. The city is made up of so many different cultures and people that you will never find the same flavor twice. My city is a gumbo pot.
Do you have a wish list of writers you'd like to write with? If so, who?

Lorde for sure.
What are your top three all-time favorite songs and why?

"Shake It Off" (Florence & TM), "God from the Machine" (Santigold), "Youth" (Daughter). The lyrics, heavy drums and almost tribal chanting in these songs are dope.
What is your strongest musical strength?

My greatest musical strength is my curiosity so experimenting and exploring a melody or beat to see how I can make it my own.
What is your greatest musical weakness?

Breathing, trying to do way too much in a song.
Who are your top three favorite and most influential artists? What is it about your favorite artists that you are drawn to?

Santigold, Erykah Badu, and Lorde. They're each very unique human beings with very distinct voices and styles. I admire their originality and the work they put into their music.
If you had to pattern your career after another artist, who would it be and why?

I'm not sure, there are plenty of people I admire.
Why do you think you should be the next "American Idol"?

I think I should be the next American Idol because I'm willing to invest all that I have. I'll put in the work, time, blood, tears, whatever it takes. It's all I want out of life. Music and art is my passion and it's the only thing that's kept me alive and sane over the years. I feel that I have something the world can embrace. And to give me the opportunity to live out loud through my craft would be giving someone in the world who feels like there's nothing much left for them a shot at their dreams.
