Rafael Cox from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. He is a 27-year-old fashion designer from Atlanta, Georgia. He was raised though in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
The first item that Rafael Cox ("Project Runway 9") ever made was a tote bag in a Sewing 101 class in college. While making it, he realized how much he enjoyed sewing it and constructing it. He attended American InterContintal University, where he majored in fashion design and marketing.
His favorite designers are Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Phillip Lim and Alber Elbaz. Cox considers skinny jeans to be a fashion must. He says his design strengths are patternmaking and draping, as well as just making really distinctive pieces. His main weaknesses are sticking to a certain design and sometimes deadlines. Over the years, he usually has been inspired by everyday people and draws upon them as his principal design influence most of the time. When he's designing, he likes listening to Beyoncé, Feist, and Rihanna.
