Rayvon Owen from "American Idol 2015" is one of the top 24 contestants in Season 14 of the FOX reality singing competition. He sang "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry for his audition in San Francisco, California. He is a vocal coach.

Raised in Richmond, Virginia, Rayvon Owen is a pop and R&B music artist who began his music career at a very young age singing in choirs, touring with gospel artists and performing in local musicals. He continued to pursue a performance career while studying Commercial Music at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. While there, he began crafting his skills in writing and performing around town at popular events, venues, clubs and showcases.
Influenced by artists such as Lionel Richie, John Legend, Katy Perry and Stevie Wonder, Rayvon has developed his own voice as a powerful performer and reflective songwriter.

When did you first start singing?

Since I was about five or six years old.
What role does music play in your life?

Second to my spiritual life and my family, music is one of the most important aspects of my life
What makes you unique?

I am unique because I'm genuine. When you are authentic your uniqueness will show. My story is unlike anyone else's.
Do you have a wish list of singers you'd like to write with? If so, who?

What are your top three all-time favorite songs and why?

"Overjoyed" — Stevie Wonder

What is your strongest musical strength?

The emotion in my voice.
What is your greatest musical weakness?

Playing the piano.
Who are your top three favorite and most influential artists? What is it about your favorite artists that you are drawn to?

Whitney Houston, Sam Smith and Stevie Wonder. Mostly vocal and emotional connection in the vocal performance and delivery. They make you FEEL!
If you had to pattern your career after another artist, who would it be and why?

Lionel Richie — he has had a slow and steady uprise since his start with Commodores. His music is legendary and has made an impact on the world across multiple genres.
Why do you think you should be the next "American Idol"?

I think I should be the next American Idol because I embody the values and characteristics of what an Idol should be: genuine, honest, humble yet confident, and a giver. I want to partner with American Idol to give back and inspire other through my music. I think that's what being a superstar is all about.
