Raza Jaffrey stars in "Smash" on NBC as Dev. Based on an idea by executive producer Steven Spielberg, the musical series follows a cross-section of characters who work to put on a Broadway musical.

British actor Raza Jaffrey had a busy career on stage before turning his hand to work on TV. He appeared in productions in his home country such as "East Is East," "Romeo and Juliet," "Cyrano de Bergerac," the award-winning "Fourteen Songs" and "Two Weddings and a Funeral" before making his West End debut as Sky in Mamma Mia."

"Mamma Mia" led to Jaffrey's big break. In 2002 he took the lead role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's lavish new musical, "Bombay Dreams." The book was written by Meera Syal, and Jaffrey won rave reviews for his performance as Akaash. In 2004 he starred as Orsino in a ground-breaking Asian production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." Also in the cast was Kulvinder Ghir of "Goodness Gracious Me."

He took a variety of small roles in British TV shows such as "EastEnders," "Casualty" and appeared in the BBC docu-drama, "Dirty War." In 2005 Raza worked with Meera Syal again and won the hearts of thousands of women as the dishy doctor, Krishnan, in "Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee."

Raza struck up a real-life romance with his "Bombay Dreams" co-star Preeya Kalidas. He graduated from Manchester University and studied acting at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

His Hollywood film credits include "The Bounty Hunter," starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, "Sex and the City 2," starring Sarah Jessica Parker, and David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promises," starring Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen and Armin Mueller-Stahl.
