Roma Maffia plays Liz Cruz on FX Network's "Nip/"Tuck," the opinionated anesthesiologist at McNamara/Troy. An outstanding physician and a confident, strong lesbian, Liz is often the voice of reason in the chaotic, superficial world of beauty and plastic surgery. In the 4th season, Liz challenges the surgeons' views on women and how best to help their patients heal. Born and raised in Manhattan, Roma Maffia was a theatre major at the City College of New York as well as the Lee Strasberg Institute. Roma Maffia left college to pursue acting full time, performing off-Broadway, off-off Broadway and in regional productions ranging from Shakespeare to Sam Shephard. After winning her first feature film role in Ron Howard's "The Paper," Roma Maffia was soon cast as Michael Douglas' tough sexual harassment lawyer in the film "Disclosure." At the same time, television producer David E. Kelley offered Roma Maffia a role in the CBS drama "Chicago Hope." Several independent film roles soon followed, including "The Flowers of Albuquerque" and "Live and Learn." Roma Maffia has appeared in television movies, including HBO's "Mistrial," Showtime's "The Defenders" and NBC's "Consensual Relations" and "The David Cassidy Story," in which she portrayed the former teen idol's agent. Roma Maffia has also appeared on HBO's "The Sopranos" and NBC's "ER" and "Law & Order." Roma Maffia is best known for her role as the forensic pathologist on the NBC drama "Profiler," which co-starred her "Nip/Tuck" colleague Julian McMahon. On the big screen, Roma Maffia co-starred in "Eraser" with Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Nick of Time" with Christopher Walken, "Double Jeopardy" opposite Ashley Judd, "I Am Sam" with Sean Penn and "Kiss the Girls" with Morgan Freeman. In her free time, Roma Maffia is involved with the Virginia Avenue Project, a mentoring program in which actors, writers and directors help kids appreciate the advantages of theater. Roma Maffia resides in Los Angeles.
